IHRC, Inc. authors FDA’s Waste Anesthetic Gases (WAGs) Guide
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Designated Agency Safety and Health Official (DASHO) and Director, Office of Laboratory Safety, released a guide developed by IHRC

Atlanta, GA. - On March 23, 2022, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the release of its FDA Waste Anesthetic Gases (WAG) Guide  which the agency’s DASHO and Director of the Office of Laboratory Science (OLS) stated is a “critical resource to support the safety of FDA staff who work with or have the potential for exposure to anesthetic gases”.
The WAG guide, as announced in the OLS Newsletter, “strengthens the understanding of general principles and specific procedures for anesthetic gas safety, as well as techniques that limit exposure, while providing guidance on how to maintain a safe and compliant workplace when working with these gases.”

OLS provides services, policy, and oversight for laboratory science, laboratory security, laboratory design and safety engineering reviews; carries out maintenance and management of primary barrier equipment; provides enterprise-level industrial hygiene services; and supports laboratory quality and safety practices throughout FDA.

The WAG Guide was developed by Dan Hewett, a Certified Industrial Hygienist and subject matter expert employed by IHRC, Inc. as part of a 5-year contract to provide mission critical support to OLS and enhance the standardization of laboratory practices and policies across the FDA.
