Learn more about Bioinformatics at IHRC

The flood of complex data generated by high throughput testing using leading-edge technology can provide a much-needed understanding of our population’s health challenges… but only with the ability to access and analyze this information.

Our in-house team of bioinformatics experts works collaboratively with clients to deliver custom, turnkey solutions and insights for questions related to disease detection, characterization, and transmission; research and development of medical countermeasures; precision medicine; drug and vaccine efficacy; antimicrobial resistance monitoring; and other areas. Consultation includes end-to-end project management encompassing conception, planning, and execution.

Past Performance

Provided R&D bioinformatics support to CDC’s Respiratory Diseases Branch to help identify SARS-CoV-2 conserved genomic regions and mutational hotspots across globally-sequenced SARS-CoV-2 genomes.

Strong experience in handling big data such as those from large-scale population-level human genome sequencing projects for the federal government.

Analysis and comparative genomics studies for anthracis genome for CDC’s Laboratory Preparedness and Response Branch to characterize various naturally occurring and laboratory constructed isolates.

Developed a scalable workflow capable of fully processing large sets of SARS-CoV-2 genome sequence data in a rapid and actionable time-frame.

Since 2012, we have processed several terabytes of genome sequencing data and developed methodologies and frameworks for efficient handling and processing of these datasets.

Identified novel variants and multi-copy plasmids and characterized structural changes associated with drug resistance.

Workforce Development

IHRC bioinformaticians have expertise in developing and delivering custom modules to train professionals in the latest bioinformatics and genomics analysis tools. Our repertoire consists of 35 bioinformatics courses with over 100 days of training material and the ability to provide tailored training material designed around each customer’s needs. These active-learning courses focus on imparting practical skills as well as the theoretical underpinnings of the subject.

To date, we have provided training for public health officials from over 30 U.S. states and territories. To date, more than 100 courses have been delivered to over 1,100 participants from the CDC, USDA, state public health laboratories, academic institutions, and private organizations. Our courses have received overwhelmingly positive reviews, resulting in clients requesting subsequent training to expand institutional knowledge and skill sets.
